Book excerpts - Ch2(E18): Checking the Innovation accounting and accountability compasses.
Harnessing the Power of Accounting and Accountability Compasses: Focusing Attention and Formulating Clear Interventions.
When we probe into lacunas that obstruct progress, things will get personal eventually. Collaborative and collective transformations always require a series of personal adjustments of lacunas. Although we delayed the personalization of lacunas, eventually, we will have to direct attention toward specific people or groups to encourage the necessary adjustments that will ensure flow and impact.
Now that we identified general issues and lacunas using the PRICE index or GAP sketching, it's time to concentrate on the right issues and intersections in which they appear.
Once lacunas become more apparent, we must translate the fuzzy, messy, and murky pushbacks into binary push-through efforts. And to do so, we need to overcome another obstacle - accounting and accountability hurdles.
Problems are solved only when they become clearly oriented and quantifiably addressable. But this task also requires careful approximation to individuals or groups.
To avoid the biases and convictions accompanying a collaborative creative and transformation effort, we need another tool to direct and measure general lacunas we've noticed using the GAP sketch and PRICE index.
Instead of looking at solving problems as fixing something or someone, let's look at problem-solving as attending to unaddressed lacunas. And we will do so by formulating the problem as a situational statement instead of a judgemental overview.
